Common Winter Injuries & Illnesses
As the seasons change, so does the risk of illness or injury. Let's take a look at some of the common Winter injuries and illnesses that you might encounter this winter season.
- Slips and Falls are more common in the Winter, especially if sidewalks are slippery with ice. Some common injuries include broken bones, sprains and head injuries so tread carefully.
- Back & Neck Injuries are also common in the Winter, usually caused by shoveling snow, scraping away ice, or moving heavy items around to hang your Christmas decorations.
- Hypothermia occurs when your body temperature drops below 95°F due to extended exposure to cold. If the temperature drops, wear layers and stay dry.
- Cold & Flu are the most common winter illnesses. You can avoid catching and spreading the flu by having a flu vaccine.
